On the day of Pentecost, the wind of the Spirit came.
And suddenly there came sound from heaven as a mighty rushing wind and it filled the house (Acts 2:2) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4)
Its source is not man, its source is God. As the Spirit gives the utterance! If man gives it man can control it but in this case, the Spirit gave it. Utterance, it means to be “under the influence” like a drunken man one is said to be “under the influence.” Something other than himself has control of him.
In this scripture we read that the sound came from heaven. God is its source. When Nicodemus asked Jesus about the new birth Jesus said that it would come as a “sound” of a mighty rushing wind. That wind came in Acts chapter two and man was born of water and Spirit..
When a baby is born the first sign of life is a sound, a cry. When the child of God is born the first sign of life is a new tongue. The breath of God enters a soul and a new language comes forth, that originates from the spirit. Unrehearsed by man, unknown to man, and unlearned by man, he begins to speak the language of his creator, earthly and heavenly. Spiritual sons talks a spiritual language.
And they spoke in “other tongues”… as the Spirit gives utterance.
