“Lord what is man that thou takest knowledge of him or the son of man that thou makest account of “Man is like unto vanity his days are as a shadow that passeth away.” (Psalm 144) Paul said, “what is man that thou art mindful of him or he Son of man that thou visitest him” ( Hebrews 2:6). Both ask the question what is man, that you would pay attention to him while simultaneously acknowledging that man is under God’s subjection. This is true whether man pays attention to God or not man is still under God’s subjection.
What is man? we try to make ourselves something, many things, all things. wealthy wise and wonderful, rich richer and richer still. Good looking and looking good. Man on the make, yet all in vain! in fact the more we have the more in vain it all becomes.
What is man? Some men think they are god’s and while the world’s rulers gather to bring the world under their rule, God has a different agenda, he calls them! It was said of Alexander the Great that the very time he summoned a parliament of the whole world before him, he himself was summoned by God. Man is like unto vanity. There is no dignitary, president king or queen beggar or emperor, technocrat or aristocrat, celebrity or mercenary, that can avoid God’s summons. What he has is vanity what he is, is vanity, yet God calls him anyway.
Friend, like gnats is the sun or worms in he ground man is overlooked. You may not feel that insignificant yet many do, may I remind you God the Great, our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ does not overlook us. He has taken knowledge of you and one day he will summons you to himself.
