4The word of the Lord came to me, saying,5“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”6“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”7But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 1:1-7).NIV
The call of God is not an “office” its an “order.” And what a privilege it is too. If it were an office the church could give it and the church could take it away. If it were a human attainment then Folks could applaud it and folks could shut it down. Were it of man, then anyone could be employed doing it and then shut down fr9m not doing it. anyone could unemployed not doing not however in God’s employment there is no unemployment, whether one has a pulpit or not. Its a call not an office that comes with a church building or a title that comes with having a congregation. The office (ministry) that one has makes one the person that he is. He is the Pastor, He is the Prophet, He is the evangelist, and teacher.
The call of God is a divine commission, given by the spirit, supernaturally, the Spirit calls. then the spirit speaks. Then the man goes with the Word not just any word but the Word he has received from the Lord. His call comes in the form of a mission, its a compelling call to preach a specific word to a specific people in a specific day or time. its hence called a commission. Now this word is ‘formed’ in a man from birth. Like Jeremiah he was called from the womb, (Jeremiah 1:5) the word was long time formed in him long before he discovered God calling him to the office. (Jeremiah 1:10). Jeremiah was somewhere between 16-20, a youth (Jeremiah 1:6,7). so we can see why then he felt that God’s Word was ‘shut up in him like fire in his bones.’ and lets face it God’s word cannot be come like fire, until one goes through a season where his Word is ‘shut up’ and incubated in ones Spirit. In fact Jeremiah’s Word of restoration to God’s people became his lifelong passion and mission because of the very fact that it was ‘shut up in his bones.’
My question what has God God spoken to you that you cannot hold onto any longer! that seasoned word. That word you have developed and studied and puzzled over? What specific Word that has its place above all other words in your heart. Has it been formed in you just as you were formed in your mothers womb. You should be able to answer that by the amount of notes you have on it in your notepad! and the amount of sermons you have ‘uncovering’ it. This message is enough to feast on for forty days or like Ezekiel 40 years! (1 Kings 19:8).
Now ask yourself what one word from God will be my portion both now and evermore?
