let two or three prophets speak (1 Cor 14:29
Spiritual gifts, add volume to the church. reveal God’s presence and enable the congregation to operate at a spiritual level in or during worship to edify those among them. Prophesy is the gift most frequently used in the church and can be used by both men and woman (v31). Its the gift that can quicken the spirits of those present. A simple word of exhortation, edification or comfort gives us the purpose of this gift. Its a gift that causes the breath of the Lord to flow through the church. Note also it is not the gift of correction. Correction comes through the teaching of the Word. All scripture is given for correction (2 Timothy 3;16-17). It is not to take the place of written scriptures. Harold Horton writes, ‘it is here that the apostolic movement has erred listening to the spoken word of the human prophet rather than obeying the abiding Word of the Lord.’ The written word is the only infallable guide. The Word of the Lord nopt the Word of the prophet is our rock. In conclusion let ‘Let two or three prophets speak [as inspired by the Holy Spirit], while the rest pay attention and weigh carefully what is said. (1 Cor 14:29 AMP ‘So let two or three prophets speak [those inspired to preach or teach], while the rest pay attention and weigh and discern what is said.’ AMPC
