Man’s chief end is to glorify God and love him forever(Westminster)
Wherefore ye eat or drink or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Cor 10:31).
That God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ our Lord (I Peter4:11).
A king is not a king without his glory. God is not a man’s God, without the glory man gives him. To give him glory is to make him king and we give him the glory by knowing him in person.
God will share many things with us, his love, his grace, his but his glory. He will not give to another. Glory is what he alone deserves. and our sole end is to glorify him forever.
How then can man glorify God?
1. We glorify him by subjection to his person
To submit to his word is a challenge. Most folks submit to their denominational doctrine before they submit their mind heart and soul to the Doctrine found in holy writ. Few question their own faith. We believe we have truth, so why seek to see if its the truth of God!
The wise men not only bowed to him in adoration and worship but also brought to him gifts. The word declares to “present “ourselves to God or make ourselves the offering. The Word “present” can take two forms. A present is a gift that we can give. We give a present. It can also be an introduction. I present to you. You give that person to others. May I suggest that you cannot present yourself to the Lord unless you know the person to whom you are being presented.
Depart from me I never knew you.
If the wise men were to worship God they must have known about him and recognized him. that him was Jesus! is our chief end to worship him? do you know him and where to find him. Would you call him Lord.
In what way are you “presenting” yourself to him? the way you present yourself determines the honour and glory you give him too. I dont know about you but I want to give him all the glory. Dont You?
2. We give God glory by both obeying and contending for truth.
God’s glory lies in his truth. To glorify him I have to know the truth about him. for when I truthfully know him I can worship him in spirit and truth.
This is why we are to contend for the truth (Jude 3 ). The Greek word for “contend” means to greatly contend as one would for his land and not suffer his right to be taken form him. (Thomas Watson).
One cannot worship the trinity of three co equal persons and say hes worshipping God. God is One and if he’s the only one worshiped you are worshipping him the Lord, truly as God. Only when we contend for his person can we truly glorify God. God is not happy if we live to pursue a ministry destiny and calling while neglecting to know him! To know him, must be our chief purpose, anything less than the knowledge of him is idol worship no matter how religious it is
3. We glorify him for ever
The only thing we will take into the next world is the knowledge of God therefore should we not make it our sole pursuit to know as much about him as we can while we are here below.
We glory God through worshipping him alone as God. There is much worship today of the trinity and the worship and praying to the Holy Spirit. but we glorify the God by worshiping him only.
Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serve.. In revelation they worshiped the lamb on the throne. Jesus is that lamb.Jesus is God! and since hes God all by himself it is he we worship!
For the invisible things of “him” from the creation of the world are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made even “his” eternal power and Godhead so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:20) because that when they knew God they glorified him not as God and changed the glory of the incorruptable God into an image…
God gave them over to a reprobate mind
Will ye contend for his person
