Have we lost our way?
The coronation of King Charles,
King Charles III’s coronation oath has been changed to embrace all faiths in an historic break with tradition. It follows decades of speculation that Charles would make changes to the oath to reflect the diversity of faith in modern Britain. he Coronation Oath Act of 1688 requires the King to declare during his crowning ceremony that he will maintain the established Anglican Protestant Church, rule according to laws agreed in Parliament, and cause law, justice and mercy to be executed in his judgment.
Secondly, according to the Standard, ‘plans to ask the public to pledge allegiance to the King during the coronation have been branded “offensive, tone deaf, and a gesture that holds the people in contempt”
My question, are we becoming a nation where anything to do with oaths, allegiances and traditional values are seemed as old fashioned and out of date? This generation proudly displays it anti-leadership and anti-God views, The attack on governments has never been higher while the acceptance of gay rights and humanistic values gets more widely accepted and embraced. Governments are mocked and ridiculed, the monarchy, scorned and questioned. It seems as if loyalty, agreement and covenant is a thing of the past. We see this in marriage and the marital vows, church leadership and mega church scandals, nothing seems to be sacred anymore.
What does the bible say about ‘oaths’ Brenton Septuagint Translation states, ‘Whenever thou shalt vow a vow to God, defer not to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools: pay thou therefore’ (Eccl 5:4). meaning we honour God when we keep our part of the covenant. it reveals that a man knows his responsibility before God and will.
I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows, …(Psalm 66;13,14)
Make and fulfill your vows to the LORD your God; (Psalm 76:11)
Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you ask, ‘How do we rob You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9You are cursed with a curse, yet you—the whole nation—are still robbing Me. 10Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure.b 11I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your land, and the vine in your field will not fail to produce fruit,” says the LORD of Hosts.
When dishonour enters, divine favour leaves. Failure to give God what’s his, leads to poverty. Whatever agreement we have between man and God let us honour God’s law, let us abide by the law of the land, keep our promises ands oaths before the Lord, blessings will follow those who do, honour will come too, You’ll have favour in high places and become a success 12“Then all the nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight,” says the LORD of Hosts. (Malachi 3;8-12).
