and they feared exceedingly and said one to another what manner of man is this that even the wind and the sea obey him?”. Matt 8;27
He awoke and “rebuked” the storm. The word REBUKED is never used except where Christ rebuked the devil. Why use it here? had the prince of the air had anything to do with this storm? He speaks one word to it “peace” and it subsides. Then looking down at the waves he silences them with “be still.” What manner of man is this? they cried.
They knew him as one who could take them over to the other side. but did not know him as the God who could calm the raging sea. The storm awoke them to who he really was. The storm awoke Jesus but awoke those who were blinded in the storm even more. Nobody talks of God until a storm coms their way, then they speculate, about God, Does he exist if so where is he they ask. Why the storm they ask? , the answer is, you could not ask that question unless the storm came your way. The storm awoke you up out of your sleep.
Oh you know the God of the good times, its your money, your job but, the God of the storm which destroys everything, the god of money has brought you, lies devastated and in ruins, hopeless, dumb, unable and silenced. Now Deity shows up to let you know that life without knowing him is pointless. It’s frail, Your storm woke you up. Now you know who the true God is. Now you can experience the calm.
