He through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles. Commanded them not to depart form Jerusalem but wait for the promise of the Father Acts1:1-4
he Jesus stands reminding the disciples that the promise had already been declared necessary for the foundation and building of the church. The church was about to be born and indeed born and birthed in water and Spirit as he had declared in Johnn3:5 we see that the sanctification and washing of Israel had not yet taken place. John had come preaching a washing for the removal of sins but sin still had dominion over man, man had to be born of Spirit as well as water in order for sins to be remitted that is washed away (Acts 23:8). Jesus was about to come as the true washing away of sins, the true author of Salvation, the builder of the church and the foundation stone of our faith.
