Is Doctrine Important

2 Timothy 4:3-5: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
The “itching ears” syndrome. Sounds good like it buy it! they don’t know truth so when the hear something that sounds good they want to buy the CD! Let me say something, truth cannot be changed and the church cannot be reinvented, upgraded or modified. If you want to know how its done, what you supposed to believe, and what to preach about, look at Acts. The apostles doctrine (Acts 2:42) It contains all that Jesus taught (Acts 1:1) and all the prophets spoke about. If a man cannot adhere to the apostles doctrine then he aught not to plant a church or be a minister of Jesus church. He should learn until he knows the revelation of the one true God and his name then if God calls him to work for him. Maybe the Lord will employ him as a servant. (Rom 1:1)
1 Tim 4:16: “Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
A man of God has to be able to save others, if his doctrine is unsound how can he even save himself!
Is having a good meal important?
So too is having sound doctrine.
1. Sound doctrine is not only important, its commanded.
2. A man without sound doctrine will be a castaway or a reprobate (2 Tim3:8).
3. A man without sound doctrine will deceive others and he himself be deceived
4. A man who teaches heresy brings upon himself swift destruction (2 peter 2:1 )
Take heed unto sound doctrine. How do you know if its sound? Its Jesus doctrine, it’s his truth and its his way, because he himself is the truth and the way. Doctrine reveals him who he is and what he said about himself. Since he is truth then anything that said of him makes him less than God is a lie! If it points to Jesus as Lord and God, preach it! If it don’t, leave it! (John 2:22, 23. Acts 23:12).
